Dr. Catherine Giess is Division Chief of Breast Imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Network Director of Breast Imaging for Brigham Radiology, as well as Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.  Dr. Giess received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania.  She did her diagnostic radiology residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and her breast imaging fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  Current research interests focus on improving the specificity of breast imaging in diagnosing breast cancer, with recent publications on screening performance of digital breast tomosynthesis compared to full field digital mammography, use of screening breast MRI in patients with a history of breast cancer, the appropriate use of breast MRI in evaluating equivocal mammographic lesions, and analysis of common interpretive pitfalls in interpretation.  She is a recipient of the 2015 and 2017 RSNA Honored Educator award.
