Leah Baldwin, Licensed clinical social worker, certified substance abuse counselor is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Social Work. Over the last 15 years she has worked primarily with persons diagnosed with substance use disorders in various settings to include residential, outpatient settings, and persons who are incarcerated. Over the years she has worked passionately to identify, improve and implement treatment programs to increase likelihood of recovery and reduce relapse obstacles.  She has been recognized by the Office of National Drug Control Policy as an outstanding individual for her work on a federal funding program geared towards assisting persons incarcerated and returning to the community address sobriety and reentry. In the last year she has assumed the position of Outpatient Behavioral Health Program Manager at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital Parham Campus and has successfully grown the program by 49%. In addition to working in direct service she also has taken on a number of projects and presentations to raise awareness to the use of person first language with discussing people diagnosed with substance abuse and mental health disorders. Over the last year she has presented to various audiences on increasing supportive communication regarding sensitive subject areas in medical settings. Typical to most people working in the helping profession, admittedly she works too much. If she wasn’t working so much, she would spend more time traveling, buying a horse or tending to her two brown tabby cats who allow her to rent space from them.
