Dr. Martens graduated from Kenyon College in Ohio and attended graduate school, where he studied microbiology, at Northwestern University.  He then attended medical school at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.  He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut, followed by a Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology Infectious Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. 


He is a past President of the International Infectious Disease Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology (I-IDSOG), and is a NAMS certified menopause practitioner.


Dr. Martens published over 150 peer-review articles, book chapters, and is a reviewer or editorial board member of several peer reviewed journals.  He has been an educator, researcher, and clinician in the areas of Infectious Diseases in women, Menopause, Osteoporosis, and Minimally Invasive Surgery for over 25 years. 


Dr. Martens was Director of Gynecology at Emory University, Chair of Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Chair at Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, Professor and Vice Chair for Research, and at The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa and most recently, the Chairman of the Department of OBGYN at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Dr. Martens is currently Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Chief Academic Officer at Tower Health in Reading, PA, and Clinical Professor and Vice-Chair at UMDNJ, Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in New Jersey.
