J'Lee Maldonado was born and raised in Queens, NY and earned a B.A. in U.S. Government and Politics/Law & Society from Skidmore College in Upstate, NY (2005). In her mid-20s, she moved to Virginia and went on to graduate from the VCU School of Social Work with her MSW (micro/clinical track, 2009).  J'Lee has had an array of professional experiences to include community and school-based clinical social work practice, as well as paralegal work in business healthcare law and immigration law. She started with VCU Health in May 2018 as the Clinical Social Worker for Adult Outpatient Neurology. J'Lee participates in ongoing research regarding the diagnosis of ALS, facilitates a monthly ALS Support Group for patients and caregivers/family, and is actively in supervision earning clinical hours toward licensure (LCSW) with a plan to sit for the exam within the next year. J'Lee is passionate about destigmatizing mental health challenges in society at large, and hopes to make an impact through open dialogue regarding the equal importance of mental and emotional health and care to that of medical/physical health and care. Any and all of J'Lee's free time is spent with her 6-year-old daughter Janiyah, and their long-time friend/senior dog Remi -  making sure to appreciate and make the most of each moment.
