Ella Balasa is 28 years old and was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 18 months old. Her parents are Hungarian and she is the only one in her family to have CF. She is a writer, a patient advocate, and a scientist. She received a degree in biology from VCU and has worked in microbiology. In the past few years, she has become increasingly involved in the CF community by serving on research committees with the CF Foundation and as director for the US Adult CF Association. Most recently she has been named to the CFF Adult Advisory Council for a two-year term. She also has a passion for writing, through which she provides a scientific voice about research experiences and encourages others by writing about the hardship and triumph that comes with living with CF. In her free time, Ella enjoys cooking, drawing, spending time with friends, and traveling when she can.
