Wulf H. Utian MB BCh, PhD, DSc, FRCOG, FACOG, FICS, reproductive endocrinologist, researcher, author, and menopause pioneer, started the world’s first menopause research center at the Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, transferring to Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1976. Pioneering infertility microsurgery and IVF, he accomplished the world’s first surrogate IVF pregnancy. He cofounded the International Menopause Society (IMS) in 1978, founded the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) in 1989, and the Council of Affiliated Menopause Societies (CAMS) in 1994, and was instrumental in helping the launch of over 25 national menopause societies worldwide. Honors include Good Housekeeping as “one of America’s best physicians in women’s health,” Ladies Home Journal as a “top ten researcher in women’s health”, an annual CWRU Wulf Utian Chairman’s award for the top graduating Resident since 2000, the FDA with an FDA Citation, in Canada in 2013 with the first SIGMA/Canadian Menopause Society “Menopause Trail Blazer Award”, and in 2017 with the Establishment of an Annual Wulf Utian IMS/CAMS Award for Achievement in Furthering Women's Health presented to "any member who does great work in their own country to further education on menopause". He is Professor Emeritus of Reproductive Biology, CWRU, Consultant in Women’s Health at the Cleveland Clinic, and Scientific Chairman Emeritus of Rapid Medical Research. He was Director of OB/GYN at University Hospitals of Cleveland, and Chairman of Reproductive Biology at CWRU. He was a Founding Editor of Maturitas, Founding Editor of Menopause (1994-2018), and Editor of Menopause Management. He has written over 230 scientific papers, and multiple books, including the acclaimed CHANGE YOUR MENOPAUSE – Why one size does not fit all.
