Melissa Dollings has been a Registered Nurse for 27 years and a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner for 13 years.  She has been employed by Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU for 19 years. She began her career at ChoR as a diploma prepared bedside NICU nurse.  Since that time, she obtained a BS in Nursing from VCU School of Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing (Neonatal Nurse Practitioner) from Vanderbilt University and is currently in the dissertation phase of a PhD in Nursing at the VCU School of Nursing. She has worked as a bedside nurse, NICU transport nurse, Clinical Coordinator and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

Her passion lies with nutrition, feeding and prevention of Necrotizing Enterocolitis in premature infants.  Her dissertation work is focused on feeding intolerance and the use of Near Infrared Spectroscopy to evaluate intestinal perfusion.  She also serves as a member of the VCU IRB, NICU Feeding Group and a work group aimed at improving communication and relationships between Advanced Practice Providers and Medical Residents in Pediatrics.
