Heather Rossi, CCLS, CPST

Heather Rossi is a senior child life specialist, having served at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) for the last 23 years. She graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia and completed a child life internship at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland, both in 1997.  Heather grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and has known since age 14 that she wanted to be a child life specialist. At CHoR, she has worked both on the acute care pediatrics unit and in the Pediatric ICU. For the last 5 years she has focused on helping to grow the department from two specialists to ten.


Heather is passionate about car seat safety, use and installation, is a certified child passenger safety technician and is also trained in special needs car seat safety. Beyond the world of pediatrics, Heather is a leader on the HCAP team – Helping Children of Adult Patients. HCAP team members go to adult units at VCU Health to provide support to children experiencing the illness, injury or death of a loved one. When asked what she likes most about her job, Heather will always say “helping adults to be honest with children” about topics that are both intense and emotional in order to help kids know that they matter and are valuable enough to know the truth about a situation.
