Dr. Kate Klein is a Cardiothoracic surgeon at VCU Health Center and the Surgical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support. She has completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Toledo in Ohio as well as a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Michigan. Prior to residency, she also completed a Master’s in Biology with a focus in cardiovascular health and has been passionate about research in the field of advanced heart failure. Dr. Klein currently is researching surgical revascularization in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction, the use of biventricular support devices, and the new allocation system for heart transplants and temporary mechanical devices. In addition, Dr. Klein is also an integral member in the Surgical Aortic Program and collaborates with the vascular surgeons on surgical advancement of complex aortic pathology.
