Maria Hazel Cohan, DNP, APRN is an Associate of the American College of Cardiology since 2018 and a three-time graduate with honors from the VCU School of Nursing (BSN ’10, MSN ’14 and DNP 18). She is board certified in Adult & Gerontology Acute Care. Currently, she is an Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Transplant Nurse Practitioner.

 

Before joining Bon Secours St. Mary’s hospital, Hazel worked as an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant NP for 5 years and as Certified Registered Nurse in the inpatient Cardiology Progressive Care Unit for 10 years at VCU Health. She also spent 1.5 years at HCA Chippenham hospital and Levinson Advanced Heart Failure clinic as Advanced Heart Failure NP and LVAD program Coordinator. Hazel is also certified as progressive care nurse (PCCN) and Spanish Medical Interpreter.

 

Her professional organizations include ACC, HFSA, ISHLT, Virginia DNPs, VCNP, ANA/VNA, American Association of Heart Failure Nurses, and American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Hazel was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society in 2010 and became associate member of American College of Cardiology in 2018. Her professional and academic interests include: Cardiology: Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory support and Heart Transplant, Quality and Safety Process Improvement, Evidence-based Practice and Patient Centered Care. Other interests include Photography, Sports and being a Social Scholar.
