Corey Wright, MD

Dr. Wright joined the Acute Care Surgery Team at Mary Washington Hospital in 2014 and currently serves as the Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit as of January 2020. In addition to his director responsibilities he remains busy practicing the full scope of general surgery and trauma careHe has extra interest in soft tissue reconstruction and minimally invasive surgery and is proficient with the DaVinci platform.

Prior to establishing himself in Fredericksburg, Dr. Wright earned his BS in Health and Exercise Science from Wake Forest University.  He then joined the research team of Dr. Keith Whitfield as part of the Carolina African American Twin Study of Aging (CAATSA) at UNC -Chapel Hill. Afterward, he then completed at post baccalaureate program at the College of Charleston, in Charleston SC. He then matriculated into the Medical University of South Carolina where the graduated and completed an internship in General Surgery. He completed his general surgery residency at St Luke’s University Hospital and Health Network, Bethlehem, PA. It was there he experienced and appreciated the breadth of general surgery and gained interest in trauma and critical care.  He returned to Wake Forest University/Baptist Health and completed a Surgical Critical Care fellowship.

He is a visiting instructor at James Madison University Department of Health Professions giving lectures to PA students. He instructs rotating students on clinical rotations in General Surgery/Trauma. He also lectures to community groups and organizations. He is active in various committee at Mary Washington.

Outside of the of the hospital he enjoys time with his family, sports, Cub Scouts, traveling and his Fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc.
