Scott C Matherly, MD

Dr. Scott Matherly is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division at Virginia Commonwealth University.  His clinical expertise centers on the management of hepatocellular carcinoma and cirrhosis.  He acts as an active transplant hepatologist in the Hume Lee Transplant Center.  His professional activities include being the medical director of the inpatient digestive health service and co-director of the multi-disciplinary hepatocellular cancer clinic.  Dr. Matherly is an accomplished teacher who co-directs the medical school GI and Hepatology curriculum where he has won numerous teaching awards.  He is well known for his expert guest spots on the popular “The Curbsiders” internal medicine podcast.  As the program director for the transplant Hepatology fellowship, he is committed to developing the most comprehensive and enriching transplant Hepatology experience available.

Dr. Matherly is married to his wife, Anne.  They have three children.  In his free time he enjoys watching soccer, traveling, exploring Richmond’s amazing restaurant scene, lifting weights, gardening and reading about volcanoes.
