Karol Watson, MD, PhD

Dr. Watson received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University; her MD degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard Medical and her PhD in Physiology from UCLA.  She completed a Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology fellowship at UCLA’s School of Medicine, where she also served as Chief Fellow. She was Chief fellow in Cardiovascular disease. The American Society of Hypertension recognizes Dr. Watson as a Specialist in Hypertension, and she is also a specialist in Lipid Management and is a charter member of the National Lipid Association (NLA).   She serves on several national boards and was a co-atuthor on the 2013 ACC-AHA Cholesterol management guidelines. Dr. Watson’s current research focuses on the prevention of cardiovascular disease, specifically the role of lipids, diabetes, and hypertension.  Dr. Watson is a Principal Investigator for several large NIH studies including the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcome Study and the Multi-ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).  Dr. Watson was honored to be named "Cardiologist of the Year" by the California chapter of the American College of Cardiology for 2017-18.
