Katherine Dec, MD, received her MD degree at Michigan State University(MSU)She completed her internship at St.Vincent’s Hospital and Health Care Center in Indiana, and trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Beijing Medical University, Beijing, CHINA, before completing her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at MCV (VCUHealth).  She returned to MSU to complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine and electrodiagnosticsShe is dual-boarded in PM&R and Sports Medicine.

She is currently a Professor in the Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at VCU SOM.  She is the Director of Sports Medicine for the Department of PM&R and of Sports Medicine and Performance at the Neuroscience, Orthopaedic and Wellness Center for VCUHealth.  She additionally serves nationally as Immediate Past President for American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, as well as regionally for the Virginia High School League’s Frank C.McCue Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and as Head Team Physician for Longwood University.  She has been a sideline physician for over 30 years with youth sports, high schools, colleges, professional events, and traveling with Olympic and Paralympic teams.  She has numerous publications and presentations in the field of sports medicine.  Most recently, she was one of the 3 physicians awarded a multi-million dollar grant by the Children’s Hospital Foundation in Richmond for concussion and TBI in youth.
