Robert A. Adler, MD

 

Dr. Robert A. Adler is Chief of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Professor of Internal Medicine and of Epidemiology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond. He received his MD and internal medicine training at Johns Hopkins and received endocrinology fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

 

Recent studies focus on osteoporosis screening and evaluation, osteoporosis in mobility disorders, and pituitary deficiency after blast traumatic brain injuryHe is a member of the editorial boards of Endocrine, the Journal of Clinical Densitometry, the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.  He is an Associate Editor of Osteoporosis International. He was Co-Chair of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research Task Force on Long-Term Bisphosphonate Treatment for Osteoporosis. At the recent NIH Pathways to Performance Workshop, Dr. Adler discussed atypical femoral fractures in patients treated for osteoporosis.
