  A. Personal Statement

The goal of this proposal is to evaluate our experience with abstaining from using irrigation and thorough suctioning for pediatric patients with peritoneal contamination from perforated appendicitis.  While the accepted abscess formation rate for this problem in the pediatric literature is approximately 20%, since using this practice, we have not had any abscesses in well over 75 patients.  Hopefully, this retrospective study will lay the ground work for further study including a prospective, multi-center trial.

Title: Homeobox Gene Expression in Fetal and Adult Rabbit Wounds

The purpose of this award was to determine the role of homeobox genes in excisional wound contraction in the fetal and adult rabbit and whether this family of transcription factors may serve as master regulatory genes in this process.   01/01/05-06/30/09
