Topics will include review of new pharmaceutical therapies, hereditary heart disease, sarcoidosis, amyloidosis, pulmonary hypertension, advanced heart failure and mechanical assist devices. The target audience will include physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and pharmacists. The ultimate goal of the conference is to improve the cardiac care for patients with heart failure or cardiomyopathies in Central Virginia through education and awareness.

  1. Identify the methods to be used to refer patients with advanced heart failure for hospice evaluation
  2. Determine patients/families that warrant referral for genetic counseling
  3. Discuss Safe prescribing of new oral therapies for appropriate patients with heart failure and pulmonary hypertension
  4. Recognize clinical and imaging clues that would suggest the patient has pulmonary hypertension or heart failure
  5. Identify appropriate patients for referral to cardiac rehabilitation and how to measure functional capacity prescribe exercise for heart failure
  6. Discuss appropriate nutritional counseling and identify patient for bariatric interventions for patients with heart Failure
