Overview

The 28th Annual Good Grief Conference is designed to educate and equip professional and volunteer caregivers to work with persons experiencing grief, whether related to health crises, chronic or life changing situations, end of life, and bereavement issues.   The 2018 conference will address practical strategies for cultivating meaningful time in the continuum of care, given the challenges and realities of culture and the workplace setting.

Audience:  Intended for any healthcare provider, including nurses, allied health professionals, chaplains, social workers, psychologists, and physicians, as well as community colleagues dealing with mental health, spiritual, and emotional counseling around loss, grief, and bereavement issues. 



Objectives
  1. Describe strategies used to effectively convey difficult news to clients.
  2. Identify how cultural norms in the workplace can affect how you communicate with clients in a meaningful way.
  3. Consider practical, diverse and cultural practices important to people during the dying process.
  4. Identify how cultural norms in the workplace can affect how you communicate with clients in a meaningful way.
  5. Describe strategies used to effectively convey difficult news to clients.

Registration

Registration Information
The registration fee of $125 (through September 4; increases to $140 after) includes speaker handouts, CNE and CME continuing education credit, continental breakfast, break refreshments, and luncheon. Minimum and maximum numbers for attendance at this conference have been established, and we reserve the right to substitute speakers/topics, or cancel if necessary. Register early.


Cancellation Policy
Full refund, minus $25 processing fee for written cancellations emailed to the event coordinator (paul.swadley@vcuhealth.org) by October 1, 2018. No refunds will be given for cancellations requested after this date.

Parking
Use The Delta Hotel’s parking deck. Parking vouchers will be provided at the conference to those who provide their parking ticket.

Handouts
Participants will receive an email prior to the event with instructions on how to access the conference materials.

Nursing: Up to 6.0 Contact Hours. VCU Health is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Virginia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Physicians: VCU Health Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  

VCU Health Continuing Medical Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Other Health Professionals:  VCU Health Continuing Medical Education awards 6 hours of participation (equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM) to each non-physician participant who successfully completes this educational activity.
