Overview
This symposium will provide an update on common endocrinology problems relevant to primary care providers in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Obstetrics/Gynecology.  The program is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners and physicians assistants, and other advanced practice providers, and includes updates on the care of patients with diabetes, obesity, PCOS, thyroid disease, and osteoporosis.

Objectives
  1. Describe a full range of effective treatment options in the management of patients with diabetes mellitus.
  2. Identify the appropriate use of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring devices.
  3. Promote effective care for patients with diabetes who are transitioning from pediatric to adult care.
  4. Manage obesity with a full range of treatment options, including appropriate use of bariatric surgery.
  5. . Evaluate thyroid nodules using appropriate diagnostic strategies, including imaging studies, biopsy, and molecular testing, and understand the value of a multidisciplinary approach to this problem
  6. Recognize patients who have polycystic ovary syndrome and manage them effectively.
  7. Provide effective support and medical care for transgender individuals.
  8. Outline current gaps in the recognition and treatment of patients who are at high risk for osteoporotic fracture, and describe appropriate strategies to reduce fracture risk.

Parking
There is no charge to park in the MCV Hospital Visitors Parking Deck.  Entrance is located at 529 N. 12th Street, Richmond.

After parking, descend to the 1st level, exit to the right and walk up the steep hill on N. 13th Street.  Cross Marshall Street to enter the Molecular Medicine Research Building.
