Overview

In this session, Kate Roberts and Mandy Butler discuss the ways occupational and physical therapy are integral to care for patients with ALS, including how these services evolve over the course of ALS progression and identifying resources for durable medical equipment.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the role of each member of the multidisciplinary team in the management of ALS, including therapists, social workers, dietitians, nurses and physicians.
  2. Describe how research can guide advances in ALS care.
  3. Explain why genetic testing is indicated for certain patients.
  4. Discuss and address the impact on caregivers supporting patients with ALS.
  5. Describe the role of palliative care and hospice as part of the care team.
  6. List regional resources available for support with ALS management.
