Overview
Human Trafficking and how healthcare providers can better identify victims and address their situation is the focus of this back-and-forth conversation with a frontline expert in this field and an internal medicine physician. This session describes the epidemiology of human trafficking, common misconceptions about human trafficking, helpful tips to identify human trafficking, and often underutilized approaches to help victims of human trafficking. The session is a recorded video conversation though listening to the recording without video should provide similar benefit.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the epidemiology of human trafficking in the world and in the United States.
  2. Identify how people who are being trafficked may present to healthcare settings.
  3. Articulate how to help someone who is a victim of trafficking.

Registration

There is a $10.00 Credit Claim fee to obtain CE credit for this activity. This Credit Claim fee will help to cover the costs of operational services, electronic reporting (if applicable), and real time customer service support.

  • In order to receive continuing education credit, learners must listen to the one hour enduring material, pass the post-test (3 questions, 100% required score, unlimited attempts), and complete an evaluation form.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, VCU Health Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.


 

VCU Health Continuing Education designates this enduring material activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM)Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Complaint Policy and Resolution Process
All complaints must be made in writing to [email protected].

All complaints will be logged into the complaint log. The Director, Continuing Education will attempt to resolve the complaint within the first contact, when possible, and will respond to the client and customer's concerns within 5 business days of the initial complaint. At the time of the first contact, Director, Continuing Education will inform the complainant if more time will be needed to research the complaint.

If the complaint is still unresolved after communication with the Director, Continuing Education, or if the initial complaint is not addressed in a timely manner, the complainant may contact the President & CEO, UHS-PEP. The President & CEO will then contact the complainant and endeavor to resolve the complaint within 10 business days after being contacted.

The complaint log will be regularly reviewed to identify areas of operations and service that may require improvement. The Director, Continuing Education will research reoccurring complaint matters and recommend process and procedure changes, when appropriate. These changes will be noted on the Complaint Resolution Log, and any necessary policy and/or procedure updates will be made within 15 business days thereafter.
