1. Apply emergency medicine standards to the evaluation and management of acute neurologic presentations, including stroke, seizure, altered mental status, and headache, with attention to timely triage, diagnostic accuracy, and clinical stabilization.
2. Demonstrate competency in clinical skills and diagnostic approaches for neurologic emergencies, such as performing a focused neurologic exam, utilizing imaging (CT, MRI), and interpreting key findings (e.g., NIH Stroke Scale, Glasgow Coma Scale)
3. Utilize evidence-based guidelines and institutional protocols to manage at least 90% of neurologic and non-neurologic patient cases in the emergency department, with appropriate escalation and specialty consultation when needed
4. Explain, describe, and demonstrate common emergency procedures with relevance to neurology, including lumbar puncture, airway management in altered mental status, seizure management protocols, and tPA administration for acute ischemic stroke
5. Identify and implement effective communication strategies during neurologic emergencies, such as delivering time-sensitive information during stroke codes, providing clear handoffs, and using closed-loop communication during resuscitations
6. Engage with interprofessional team members, including neurology, radiology, nursing, and pharmacy, to understand their roles in the diagnosis and management of neurologic emergencies, fostering a collaborative and efficient care environment
7. Incorporate real-time feedback and observational learning to refine clinical reasoning, improve team dynamics, and adapt communication strategies during high-acuity neurologic presentations

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Certificates of participation are provided to attendees not eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.

All complaints will be logged into the complaint log. The Director, Continuing Education will attempt to resolve the complaint within the first contact, when possible, and will respond to the client and customer's concerns within 5 business days of the initial complaint. At the time of the first contact, Director, Continuing Education will inform the complainant if more time will be needed to research the complaint.

If the complaint is still unresolved after communication with the Director, Continuing Education, or if the initial complaint is not addressed in a timely manner, the complainant may contact the President & CEO, UHS-PEP. The President & CEO will then contact the complainant and endeavor to resolve the complaint within 10 business days after being contacted.

The complaint log will be regularly reviewed to identify areas of operations and service that may require improvement. The Director, Continuing Education will research reoccurring complaint matters and recommend process and procedure changes, when appropriate. These changes will be noted on the Complaint Resolution Log, and any necessary policy and/or procedure updates will be made within 15 business days thereafter.
