Overview
Michele Green-Wright Annual Pharmacy Technician Instructor Clinical Training Symposium is designed for pharmacy technician course instructors. Pharmacy technician education and training is essential in extending the workforce in pharmacy. This program introduces several new pedagogy strategies useful in training pharmacy technicians. In  addition, the learner will be exposed to the latest updates on pharmacy laws and regulations, pharmacy technician advanced certifications and program accreditation, virtual reality use in pharmacy education, and controlled substance addiction and diversion.


Objectives
  1. Identify new roles for pharmacy technicians in retail, hospital, institutional, and other settings
  2. Describe the knowledge and skills associated with all PTCB specialty training programs
  3. Review effective instructional strategies to use within a pharmacy technician training program curriculum
  4. Discuss the 2023 Virginia Board of Pharmacy law updates pertaining to pharmacy technicians and the pharmacy profession
  5. Recognize controlled substance diversion and red flags in pharmacies
  6. Discuss transitioning an existing pharmacy technician training program to an ASHP accredited program and maintaining its accreditation status
  7. Discuss virtual reality that can enhance pharmacy technician training
  8. Explain the importance of compassion when teaching strategies to reduce opioid addiction along with the principles of harm reduction
  9. Identify instructional scaffolding teaching strategies when teaching pharmacy calculations
  10. Describe recent legislation in 2023 impacting marijuana, laws, regulations and its future in the state of Virginia

In support of improving patient care, VCU Health Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

All complaints will be logged into the complaint log. The Director, Continuing Education will attempt to resolve the complaint within the first contact, when possible, and will respond to the client and customer's concerns within 5 business days of the initial complaint. At the time of the first contact, Director, Continuing Education will inform the complainant if more time will be needed to research the complaint.

If the complaint is still unresolved after communication with the Director, Continuing Education, or if the initial complaint is not addressed in a timely manner, the complainant may contact the President & CEO, UHS-PEP. The President & CEO will then contact the complainant and endeavor to resolve the complaint within 10 business days after being contacted.

The complaint log will be regularly reviewed to identify areas of operations and service that may require improvement. The Director, Continuing Education will research reoccurring complaint matters and recommend process and procedure changes, when appropriate. These changes will be noted on the Complaint Resolution Log, and any necessary policy and/or procedure updates will be made within 15 business days thereafter.
