Identify types of substance use disorders and examine ongoing challenges with substance use disorders in palliative care.

• Discuss palliative care cases
• Review ongoing challenges, such as stigmas, training gaps in the assessments, and fear of prescribing opioids for pain management 

1. Identify the types of substance use disorders that occur in palliative care patient populations.
2. Describe assessment tools for substance use disorders in the palliative care setting.
3. Explore models for the management of substance use disorders and opioid pain management co-occurring in palliative care patient populations.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, VCU Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program.
