Participants will be joining us via Zoom for six 1.5 hour sessions over a period of 12 weeks including 50 minutes of didactic and 10 minutes of Q and A and 30 minutes of case presentation by participants on child abuse and neglect.

Objectives
  1. Examine the epidemiology of child abuse and neglect in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  2. Recognize common patterns of injury in child physical abuse
  3. Recognize when histories are incongruent with the physical findings of the child
  4. Familiarize with the additional diagnostic testing for those children with suspected abuse and neglect
  5. Evaluate reporting and response systems within CPS and Law enforcement for abused and neglected children
  6. Identify the face of child sexual abuse in the prepubertal and pubertal child in terms of signs and symptoms
  7. Distinguish between normal exam variants and abnormal physical exam findings in child sexual abuse
  8. Examine the types of child neglect and how those children present to care

The Director, Continuing Education will attempt to resolve the complaint within the first contact, when possible, and will respond to the client and customer's concerns within 5 business days of the initial complaint. At the time of the first contact, Director, Continuing Education will inform the complainant if more time will be needed to research the complaint.

If the complaint is still unresolved after communication with the Director, Continuing Education, or if the initial complaint is not addressed in a timely manner, the complainant may contact the President & CEO, UHS-PEP. The President & CEO will then contact the complainant and endeavor to resolve the complaint within 10 business days after being contacted.

The complaint log will be regularly reviewed to identify areas of operations and service that may require improvement. The Director, Continuing Education will research reoccurring complaint matters and recommend process and procedure changes, when appropriate. These changes will be noted on the Complaint Resolution Log, and any necessary policy and/or procedure updates will be made within 15 business days thereafter.
