The Heart Health in Women 2026 Symposium will be a half-day educational conference for health care professionals focused on comprehensive understanding of heart disease in women. Topics will include chest pain syndromes in women, update on heart failure medications, hormone replacement therapy, cardiac rehab, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and strokes, focusing on clinical presentation, treatments and outcomes of cardiovascular disease in women. The target audience will include physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, technologists, pharmacists, and learners in training. The ultimate goal of the conference is to improve the cardiac care for women in Central Virginia through education and awareness.

1. Examine the state of the art data on chest pain syndromes in women.
2. Describe the risks and benefits of the most commonly used medications in heart failure.
3. Describe the risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy in women.
4. Discuss sex-based disparities in referrals and outcomes of cardiac rehab in women.
5. Identify the risk factors of arrhythmias and new treatments for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
6. Analyze the best appropriate work-up for stroke in women.
7. Nursing outcome: Summarize the presentations of chest pain syndromes in women.
8. Nursing outcome: Discuss the importance of cardiac rehab in attaining optimal outcomes in women with cardiovascular disease.

Registration fees are the same for in-person and virtual attendance.

VCU Health Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

VCU Health designates this activity for a maximum of 4.0 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

VCU Health Continuing Education has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1
CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 4.00 AAPA Category 1 CME
credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

 

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 4.0 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.

Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

It is the responsibility of the participant to provide the correct information [ABIM ID Number and DOB (in MMDD format)] in order to receive MOC credit for participating in a CE activity.

Complaint Policy and Resolution Process
All complaints must be made in writing to [email protected].  

All complaints will be logged into the complaint log. The Director, Continuing Education will attempt to resolve the complaint within the first contact, when possible, and will respond to the client and customer's concerns within 5 business days of the initial complaint. At the time of the first contact, Director, Continuing Education will inform the complainant if more time will be needed to research the complaint.

 If the complaint is still unresolved after communication with the Director, Continuing Education, or if the initial complaint is not addressed in a timely manner, the complainant may contact the President & CEO, UHS-PEP. The President & CEO will then contact the complainant and endeavor to resolve the complaint within 10 business days after being contacted. 

 The complaint log will be regularly reviewed to identify areas of operations and service that may require improvement. The Director, Continuing Education will research reoccurring complaint matters and recommend process and procedure changes, when appropriate. These changes will be noted on the Complaint Resolution Log, and any necessary policy and/or procedure updates will be made within 15 business days thereafter.
